Pottali Sweda
Pottali Sweda, also known as Kizhi or Navarakizhi, is a specialized Ayurvedic therapy that involves the application of warm herbal poultices (Pottali) to the body to relieve pain, stiffness, and inflammation. These poultices are filled with medicinal herbs, rice, or sand, depending on the condition being treated, and are heated in herbal oils before being massaged onto the body using rhythmic strokes. This therapy is highly effective in alleviating joint pain, muscle stiffness, and chronic conditions like arthritis, spondylosis, and fibromyalgia. The heat from the poultices penetrates deep into the tissues, improving blood circulation, reducing swelling, and promoting detoxification. This therapy balances Vata and Kapha Doshas, making it especially beneficial for individuals with cold, stiff, or weak muscles and joints.
